Welcome and General Overview

Thank you for considering Graemeshall House for your stay in Orkney. We look forward to welcoming guests here once again.

 
We are taking every precaution against COVID-19 and have intensified all cleaning and disinfecting regimens for your safety. Each room is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and sanitised in line with the guidelines issued by Scotland’s Public Health Authority. Breakfast is served by appointment in our breakfast lounge to ensure we can observe social distancing guidelines.  Hand sanitiser is available in all common areas and you will find a set of masks in our amenities kit.

Graemeshall House has been awarded Visit Scotland’s ‘Good to Go’ badge, confirming that our COVID-19 measures and procedures are meeting government recommendations.

In order to protect you, our other guests and staff, we will send you an Online Check-In form prior to your arrival, asking you to confirm the last destination you visited ahead of your arrival.

Pre-arrival and Arrival Measures and Procedures

Please find below the pre-arrival and arrival procedures that we have adapted as part of our promise to reassure you of your safety when visiting Graemeshall House. Our approach builds on our existing high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. 

Please be aware that, according to government regulations, a room should be occupied by members of only one household (or extended household).

BEFORE YOU VISIT
The Scottish Government has announced that lateral flow test packs are available free to anyone planning to visit Scotland’s islands. Visitors are encouraged to order the packs and take two tests before beginning their journey. There is no official requirement to take a test. However, we would encourage you to take advantage of the free kits before travelling to give our island communities confidence that you are doing everything you can to help protect them. You can order a free test online for home delivery on the gov.uk website.

All guests are asked to check their temperature before travelling. Anyone displaying a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above should not travel to Graemeshall House. Furthermore, if you have had any of the following symptoms in the 7 days leading up to your stay - a new or continued cough, a high temperature or a loss of taste or smell you should not travel to Graemeshall House. Please follow the government advice on self-isolation and contact us to let us know. We will not charge a cancellation fee in these difficult circumstances. We reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone who appears to be unwell with COVID-19 symptoms.

CONTACTLESS CHECK-IN
To ensure a check-in that reduces contact and touch points, you will be sent an Online Check-In form prior to your arrival. We are required to take the name and contact details of every guest. This information may be used for contact tracing purposes to support NHS Test and Protect. This information is retained with a view to sharing with Test and Protect Teams, if required.

YOUR ARRIVAL
Your room will be ready from 4pm. We would ask you to not arrive before this time to allow us to clean and sanitise your room thoroughly. Upon your arrival we will greet you with a warm socially distanced welcome, wearing appropriate PPE. We will not handle any baggage, unless you require assistance, to aid in preventing touch points during your arrival. 

PAYMENT 
On arrival, we will take your payment, preferably by card. Cash will be accepted but it is to be avoided where possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Guest room and Housekeeping

GUEST ROOM
You can be assured that every measure has been taken to ensure the cleanliness of your room. We have introduced complete room disinfecting measures, using industry-leading cleaning products. We also change pillows, duvets, cushions and coat hangers after every guest and spray all remaining soft furnishings and curtains. We are certain that guests understand why this is necessary during these unusual times and thank you for your understanding.

GUEST ROOM HOUSEKEEPING 
To maintain household integrity, no one will enter your room for the duration of your stay. You can, of course, request any additional items if needed. If you would prefer a daily housekeeping service, please let us know when you check-in. However, for your safety we ask that you are not in the room whilst your room is being serviced. We would also ask all guests to please leave no later than 10am on the day of departure and to leave all windows open when leaving.

LIBRARY 
We are keeping our Library open for guests to use. However, we would ask that only one set of guests makes use of the Library at a time. If you do make use of our Library, could you please let us know so that we can clean and sanitise the room ready for another set of guests.

LEFT LUGGAGE
Unfortunately we are unable to offer a Left Luggage service in this current situation. 

GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING 
All key contact points, such as door handles, light switches, etc, have been identified and will be disinfected regularly throughout the day.

Meals

BREAKFAST

Breakfast is served by appointment in our breakfast lounge to ensure we can observe social distancing guidelines. Guests will be allocated the same seats for the duration of their stay. Food and drink service is strictly table service only. There is as much choice as always but there is no buffet and all condiments and sauces, etc are individually wrapped. Food is prepared following guidelines from the Food Standards Agency with enhanced sanitation procedures and thorough hand hygiene. Breakfast ordering and general communication will involve more use of the internet and mobile phones.

DINING
In order to avoid disappointment, we highly recommend that you make any restaurant reservations before your arrival. All restaurants are following government guidelines and are therefore closing earlier than usual at the moment. Some restaurants are not reopening until later in the year. Orkney.com has a list of restaurants on its website, informing you of their opening dates.

Employees and Guest Well-being

SOCIAL DISTANCING 

A minimum of two metres distancing must be observed at all times. This is the current requirement of the Scottish Government.

FACE COVERINGS
In line with official guidance, all guests and staff are expected to wear face coverings on arrival and when moving around communal areas.

HAND SANITISER
There is hand sanitiser available in all rooms and communal areas. We would ask that all guests please maintain good hygiene standards such as regular hand washing, coughing etiquette and making use of the hand sanitiser stations throughout the property.

GUEST HEALTH CONCERNS 
This information is based on advice and instruction from the Scottish Government.
If you develop COVID-19 symptoms during your stay, you must notify us immediately and you must contact the health authority for an immediate test. You must self isolate in your room while waiting for the test result or go straight home and isolate there, if possible.
If your COVID-19 test result is positive, you should immediately return home, if this is possible. If this is not possible you must discuss alternatives with the local authority. Guests will be liable to pay all of the costs of an extended stay.
